About Us
Polysteel Atlantic Limited and East Coast Rope Limited are manufacturers of high-tensile-strength, three-strand synthetic rope, with production capacity in excess of 6,000,000 lbs per year. Both manufacturing facilities are located in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
Our ropes carry the registered trade names Polysteel, Esterpro, Hydropro and Polysteel Leaded — including the uniquely designed leaded rope known as "SCR." Polysteel Atlantic maintains a strong presence in both the aquaculture and commercial fishing industries.
Compared to traditional polypropylene rope, Polysteel has almost twice the tensile strength, less stretch and higher abrasion resistance. Combined with extremely high UV resistance, it offers one of the lowest costs per pound of tensile strength of any synthetic rope. The ability to custom-make a rope for a specific use is a key reason for the company's growing popularity across the industries it serves.

Our History
In 1993, East Coast Rope Limited was incorporated and acquired the assets of the former Scotia Ropes operation in North Sydney, Nova Scotia. The business grew steadily, and by 1996 capacity had become a constraint. In early 1997, additional capacity was needed to maintain the service and delivery times customers had come to expect.
Polysteel Atlantic Limited was formed in 1997, and new equipment and a facility were acquired. Production at the Polysteel Atlantic location officially began in March 1998. The added capacity allowed the company to expand into new markets, develop new products, and continue providing prompt service and excellent quality.

Our Facilities
Polysteel Atlantic is located in the Sydport Industrial Park outside Sydney, Nova Scotia. On Sydney Harbour, it features access to an ice-free port with excellent docking, rail service and highway access.
The company owns its 100,000-square-foot facility, built in 1990 on 12.5 acres, occupying 65,000 square feet with room for future growth.
East Coast Rope Limited operates a 26,000-square-foot facility in the Northside Industrial Park, adjacent to the Marine Atlantic ferry terminal in North Sydney, dedicated solely to rope and extrusion operations.
